Sandalwood Indian essential oil is a member of the Santalaceae family. It is distilled from the pulverised heartwood and major roots of a small evergreen tree. This is a profoundly versatile essential oil for its spiritual and emotional applications as well as its applications in perfumery/fragrancing and skin care. With the threat of extinction, Sandalwood harvesting is now officially controlled by the Indian Government, and only mature trees (over 30 years old) are allowed to be harvested.

Sandalwood essential oil is known for its restorative effect on the mind and emotions.As a meditation tool it helps to still and clarify the mind. Will help dispel any feelings of anxiety, lift depression and promote a restful nights sleep. Soothing, cooling and moisturising to the skin, it is helpful for dry or inflamed skin, eczema, psoriasis as well as oily skin and acne.

Sandalwood can be found throughout the history of many cultures. It was an important medicinal herb in traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicines and by 700 BC, it could be found in Egyptian embalming formulas and become an important trade item. Sandalwood has long been a part of Indian culture, both the tree itself and the oil that it produces. As early as 2000 BC, sandalwood is mentioned among spices and silk in the epic Indian poem, Ramayana. It was one of the first items traded in the Middle East. In India, the tree was declared a "Royal Tree" by the Sultan of Mysore in 1792.
